Express Checkout – Tesco/Booker

Express Checkout:

  • Tesco and Booker have ratified their merger / takeover today, with 85% voting in favour of the deal.
  • Tesco have already started to integrate Booker, with a Chef Central implant store in Cambridge (former Dobbies) and two Extra stores benefitting from an expanded range within the store in seasonal space.

  • There isn’t a mention of Cash/Carry. Chef Central in Cambridge features no membership requirement and the two stores in Tesco call their new range ‘big pack Grocery’.

The 5 that matter for the Tesco and Booker merger:

1.No real barriers for customers via Booker and Chef Central:

VAT included in the price and no membership needed.

2. Catering ranges mean giant pack sizes, full cases, single bottles and the emergence of Chef’s Larder brand too.

Chef Central ranges alongside catering sized packs and a 'case' too.

3. Giant tin of Beans – £1.53. A quality message(?)

4.  Beware of core store vs. Chef Central price comparatives. 24pk of Coke was c. £1.50 cheaper in Tesco, however these weren’t single cans that were suitable for resale admittedly.

5. The ‘Booker in Tesco store’ assortment uses Tesco shelf labels and centres on a ‘big brands, great prices’ message.
